Foot massage is an important part of foot care and is intended to ensure well-being. Our nail designer Stefanie will explain to you when she offers a foot massage and who it is suitable for. She also gives you tips on what you should pay attention to when giving the perfect massage and recommends products with which you can easily perform the foot massage and care for the skin of your feet at the same time.
When is foot massage used?
“I offer my customers a foot massage at the end of their foot care. I also do a foot massage as part of a spa treatment and after a paraffin bath ,” explains nail expert Stefanie. Foot massage is particularly popular in winter because it gives your feet new suppleness when they are wrapped up in thick socks and boots all day. It also warms your feet and ensures a relaxing break - cookies, hot cocoa and a magazine can then complement the foot massage.
Who are foot massages suitable for?
In principle, foot massages are suitable for everyone, but our expert advises asking customers beforehand whether they would like a foot massage - some customers are very ticklish or find foot massages unpleasant for other reasons, have no time or have health restrictions and would then prefer not to have one Foot massage. Injuries and wounds are other factors that preclude foot massage.
What should you pay attention to during a foot massage?
The massage pressure plays an important role in foot massage: if it is too weak, it tickles. However, if it is too strong, it can hurt. This is where tact and communication are needed, because the best thing to do, especially with new customers, is to ask whether the pressure is comfortable, explains the expert. “I also pay attention to health aspects and check whether the ankles are swollen, there are water retention, open wounds or blisters - these areas should not be massaged to avoid infection and pain. If there are very noticeable symptoms of the disease, I recommend a visit to the doctor to have the causes clarified,” says our nail designer.
- Choose the right massage pressure
- Too little pressure: ticklish
- Too much pressure: painful
- Do not massage pathological changes
- Recommend seeing a doctor if necessary
Which products for foot massage?
In winter I use rich creams and oils that moisturize the foot. In the summer I use lighter creams or a mousse - these products are absorbed more quickly so that customers don't slip in their shoes barefoot afterwards. In general, I always offer different products that I let my customers smell before the foot massage so that they can decide whether they like the scent. In winter, berry and classic Christmas scents are in demand, while in summer floral, minty and citrus scents are in demand. Urea, calendula, coconut oil and lavender are other sought-after ingredients in high-quality foot creams. “I always have a scent-neutral cream without flavor on offer. You should also ask about allergies before treatment,” our expert recommends. Your tip for the right amount of cream: Use enough cream so that your hands can glide easily over the skin, but so little that the cream is quickly absorbed afterwards so that no greasy film remains on the skin.
- Rich cream for the winter

- Winter scent: berry & Christmassy
