Very different products are used in nail design, the use of which releases fumes into the surrounding air. Fine dust is also created when a model is sanded during refilling. During measurements in 2011, the Hamburg Office for Occupational Safety found that the prescribed limit values for methyl methacrylate were in the green range when working with liquid and powder in a well-ventilated room with three workstations. However, it becomes critical if the work rooms are very small or have too many workstations and if the rooms are not adequately ventilated - not only the fumes from acrylic or solvents such as nail polish remover collect here, but also dust from the sanded off gel. The Hamburg Office for Occupational Safety and Health recommends that the most effective measure against this problem is to extract the vapors directly at the work table, and the law also requires professional dust extraction.
- Vacuum up filing dust
- Vacuum out fumes
- Comply with occupational safety
Integrated or mobile: dust extraction for good air
To keep the load as low as possible, work tables with dust extraction in the nail salon are a good choice. They ensure that dust and vapors are extracted directly and are already integrated into the table , so that no separate positioning or purchase of these devices is necessary. However, if you work at a table without integrated dust extraction, you can easily retrofit it with a mobile device . These products are also suitable for mobile nail designers or nail design in your own four walls because they can be set up and positioned as required. They can also be a good alternative to stationary dust extraction at trade fairs or in very small rooms that do not allow for additional equipment.
- Vacuum up dust and fumes directly
- Integrated dust extraction (workstation)
- Mobile dust extraction (retrofit or for on the go)
Suction methods for nail design
High-quality commercial dust extraction systems can suck in the dust or vapors using a kind of “trunk” and lead them directly outside - this of course requires additional system components that take up space. Another concept is the use of table dust extractors with filter bags and activated carbon filters that filter the air and can be easily retrofitted and changed. “Every nail designer should work with a dust extraction system. It improves the air and contributes to hygiene in the entire studio - I never work without dust extraction!" says our nail designer Stefanie.
- Extraction to the outside
- Filter insert inside
- Hygiene for the entire nail salon
Dust extraction – clean and convenient
The integrated and mobile dust extraction systems are made from durable materials that ensure the products have a long service life. They can be easily cleaned with the usual cleaning and disinfecting agents for this area - making them ideal for use in the nail salon. The shape of the dust extractors can be ergonomic so that they relieve the strain on the customer's wrists and hands and make the nail designer's work easier. Dust extraction units embedded in the workplace, on the other hand, can form a flat surface with the work surface and can be supplemented with additional hand rests.
- Durable materials
- Long durability
- Cleaning with cleaning and disinfecting products
- Hand rest integrated or separate
5 expert tips: Working correctly with dust extraction
Our nail designer Stefanie explains that so that the dust extraction system can carry out its task perfectly and always work consistently powerfully, it should be cleaned and maintained regularly. This includes checking the individual components and whether they have been assembled correctly. Furthermore, it is necessary to clean or change the filters in filter systems regularly - depending on the product. This process is described in detail in the operating instructions and does not require any specialist knowledge. After each customer, the surface of the dust extraction system, like all other surfaces in the workplace, should be freed from any coarse contamination and then disinfected. Special agents for surface disinfection or disinfectant wipes are suitable for this . “When designing the nails itself, it is also important that you make sure that the customer has actually positioned her hands over the dust extraction - sometimes if you are not careful, your hands can slip and are then no longer in the optimal position,” explains our expert.
- Clean and maintain regularly
- Check individual components and their combination
- Clean or change filters regularly
- Clean & disinfect surface
- Position customer hands correctly
Dust extraction in nail design for occupational safety
In 2011, the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety launched a pilot project on solvents in the air from nail salons. It has been found that some products used contain hazardous substances, including solvents such as toluene, which can cause various health problems such as irritation of mucous membranes. Allergies or contact dermatitis can result. At the beginning of 2010, the EU issued a cosmetics regulation that stipulated quality requirements and liabilities for cosmetic products. This involves the ingredients of cosmetic products, such as nail polishes and nail gels, as well as the correct labeling of the items.
In its leaflet, the IKW/FCIO/SKW Group explicitly points out that commercial users, i.e. nail salons, must ensure adequate ventilation and filtering of file dust and vapors as part of occupational safety - the face mask protects against dust, professional suction but also before the gaseous product components.
- Avoid health problems
- Quality requirements of the cosmetics regulation
- Mouth protection & suction recommended
Our products are developed and produced in Germany. They meet the high quality requirements of the EU Cosmetics Regulation and are toluene-free. Our gels, varnishes and liquids are also 100% vegan and are produced without animal testing.
