Paraffin wax treatments are particularly popular with neurodermatitis and rheumatism patients. The beneficial effect of warm paraffin is perceived as very positive and pleasant. The paraffin opens the pores of the skin. This is similar to sweating of the skin. The warmth and moisture can penetrate the skin and cracked and chapped skin is provided with plenty of lasting moisture. The skin becomes more supple and feels softer. To achieve this result, the hands or feet must first be immersed in the warmed paraffin bath and this process repeated twice. A disposable sock is then placed over the foot. The terry cloth warming socks are then pulled over the disposable socks. The feet are left in the socks for 15 minutes. After the exposure time, the socks are removed from the feet along with the dried paraffin and disposed of.
